South East Wood Fuels Training South East Wood Fuels has secured funding from the Landskills South East programme. This is part of the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE). The programme is jointly funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and DEFRA via SEEDA. South East Wood Fuels is running these courses in association with Ignite, the leading provider of wood fuel training in the UK. THE COURSES The Wood Fuel Supply Chain This three day course is the UK’s only accredited wood fuel supply chain training course and provides a comprehensive introduction to wood fuel production and essential background to the market. Attending this course will enable you to: run an efficient and profitable wood fuel business; know how, where and when to start out in wood fuel; obtain a Lantra Awards Technical Certificate. The three day 'original' course consists of four modules (Setting the Scene; The wood fuel Resource; wood fuel Systems; wood fuel Technology) and includes a visit to a wood fuel installation and a short written assessment. Introduction to wood fuel for Rural Estates This one day seminar is designed to introduce those working with farms and estates to the opportunities provided by wood fuel for self-supply from woodland and forest resources and the chance to look beyond estate boundaries to other opportunities in the renewable energy sector. The seminar introduces the concept of renewable energy and looks in more detail at the opportunities afforded by wood fuel including wood fuel heating technologies and wood fuel processing and handling equipment. The seminar also involves a visit to a working wood fuel boiler system. Managing Woodlands for wood fuel Focussing on small and undermanaged woodlands, this one day course covers a wide range of issues relating to woodland management for the production of wood fuels including: management systems; timber quality; site assessments; measurement of timber; harvesting and extraction techniques, processing, storage and seasoning. A visit to a local woodland enables trainees to practice their new skills on the ground and discuss the theory learnt in the context of a real life situation. Wood Fuel Quality Standards This one day course is designed to help participants: understand the range of draft CEN standards for wood fuels; appreciate the different properties of wood fuel that can be specified; know how to specify wood chip fuel; know how to find out if a particular type of wood is appropriate for a specific combustion system; recognise the importance of quality assurance and labelling. The course concentrates on solid biofuels, specifically wood fuel, from forest or primary wood processing sources. It is a one day course divided into four sessions, including an outdoor based practical and demonstration. WHERE AND WHEN WILL THE COURSES TAKE PLACE?
